Why windows 10 is even worse

Plenty to write here, just not made it public yet.

I'm forced to use windows at work for now, at home I'm 100% Linux based, so writing about windows without risking comparing it to something much better is not easy.

Initial observations:-

  1. It doesn't crash or freeze up as often, this might seem to be real progress for microsoft, but they've only had 30 years of windows to write an OS which doesn't crash frequently. Hardly an achievement really.
  2. The Menu is better than w8, but that's a low base to compare with. But it's still just hard to use, it's easier to type the app into the search bar, but instead of just showing apps installed, if it doesn't find what you are after it just returns internet based links.
  3. Sleep, I have a dual monitor setup, laptop screen and external HDMI monitor (sadly still no multiple desktops it seems, see Windows 7 is rubbish and KDE/Linux is better) but if I close the laptop lid to sleep, whne I open it again, all the windows are on the laptop screen, seems incapable of remembering where I want windows putting. Given the name of the OS, that's more than a bit ironic. I'd just like to put Windows in the recycle bin of course…

So frankly, in three years of having to use it, still nothing I couldn't have done easier, better and more securely than with Linux and Mac.

In fact even MSN has an article rubbishing windows 11:- https://www.msn.com/en-gb/money/technology/microsoft-is-digging-its-own-grave-with-windows-11-and-it-has-to-stop/ar-AA1CQkbh. Sadly the article does not go far enough by suggestion that computers rendered obsolete by TPM 2.0 are still ideal for upgrading to Linux.

Pity there doesn't appear to be a comments page I can add this idea to.

Network Changes

Supposing you want to change a network setting, a network related icon would be where you would look wouldn't you? Maybe an ethernet or WiFi symbol? WRONG!! Nil points. Look for a picture of a computer monitor, and instead of finding display properties or something similar, you will find network settings. Logical or what! If you want to change your display settings, look for the Wifi icon. Just joking!

Stupid inconsitent menus

I hate excel to start with, but it illustrates just how fucked up w10 menus have become. It's not even consistent within the same application.

If I want to open a document, instead of giving me a familiar semi useful windows way of selecting a file, I get this:-

But if I want to save something in excel (forced to save something is more accurate as I don't want to use excel to begin with), I get this, totally different to the open menu:-

Want to start you own Nuclear Weapons stockpile?

Well if you do, probably best to avoid using any Microsoft software:-

Or better still, don't keep a hidden stockpile unless your name is Kim.
