HMC Agent (PH) Setup

The HMC agent is a multi-instance agent. The agent needs to run on a server which can connect with SSH to the HMC being monitored. The HMC agents have been installed on each of the NIM servers to monitor the HMC's at the same site.

Before installing the HMC agent on the NIM server ensure that ssh for hscroot has been set up (NIM server to HMC). Also check that any existing ssh footprints in “/.ssh/known_hosts” are valid, as strict ssh checking is applied by the agent, delete existing entries and ssh to the hmc to be certain.

HMC agent installation can be performed from the TEP console.

Choose the NIM server node, right click and select “Add Managed System”.

This will produce a list of available agents for installation, choose the HMC Base Agent.

You will be prompted to specify the following values on the “HMC inoformation” tab:

instance name (specify the HMC name e.g: HMC1)

HMC Hostname (e.g: hmc1.brm.pri)

HMC Username (hscroot)

On the agent tab specify:

username (root)

Group Name (blank or system)

The HMC Base agent should pick up all other configuration values from the base unix agent (UX) but it may be necessary to update the /opt/IBM/ITM/config/ph.ini file to add the following values for agent autonomy:

CTIRA_RECONNECT_WAIT=600
CTIRA_PRIMARY_FALLBACK_INTERVAL=1500
Note: CTIRA_PRIMARY_FALLBACK_INTERVAL needs to be at least 2.5 * CTIRA_RECONNECT_WAIT value.
