Plenty to write here, just not made it public yet.
I'm forced to use windows at work for now, at home I'm 100% Linux based, so writing about windows without risking comparing it to something much better is not easy.
Initial observations:-
So frankly, in three years of having to use it, still nothing I couldn't have done easier, better and more securely than with Linux and Mac.
In fact even MSN has an article rubbishing windows 11:- https://www.msn.com/en-gb/money/technology/microsoft-is-digging-its-own-grave-with-windows-11-and-it-has-to-stop/ar-AA1CQkbh. Sadly the article does not go far enough by suggestion that computers rendered obsolete by TPM 2.0 are still ideal for upgrading to Linux.
Pity there doesn't appear to be a comments page I can add this idea to.
How is this even possible? Duplicate directories or just different directories with the same name? Just unbelievable… Which file do I want to delete and where?
It's 2025, who uses floppy disks these days? How many users (children) new to computing even know what a floppy disk is? So how are they expected to know to click an unknown object to save their work? Bit like having a punched card or paper tape icon to click for older computer users.
Well, at least have a fancy icon either for all directories or none. I thought the idea of icons was to distinguish directories and different file types?
Supposing you want to change a network setting, a network related icon would be where you would look wouldn't you? Maybe an ethernet or WiFi symbol? WRONG!! Nil points. Look for a picture of a computer monitor, and instead of finding display properties or something similar, you will find network settings. Logical or what! If you want to change your display settings, look for the Wifi icon. Just joking!
I hate excel to start with, but it illustrates just how fucked up w10 menus have become. It's not even consistent within the same application.
If I want to open a document, instead of giving me a familiar semi useful windows way of selecting a file, I get this:-
But if I want to save something in excel (forced to save something is more accurate as I don't want to use excel to begin with), I get this, totally different to the open menu:-
Well if you do, probably best to avoid using any Microsoft software:-

“Chinese hackers gain access to US oversight of nuclear weapons in widespread Microsoft hack: report”
Or better still, don't keep a hidden stockpile unless your name is Kim.
If you have decided to move away from windows, hopefully I've done my bit, but even MSN has an article from Apple about why you should to a Mac:- https://www.msn.com/en-gb/money/technology/windows-10-end-of-life-apple-gives-us-5-reasons-smbs-should-make-the-switch-to-mac-before-windows-10-goes-awol/ar-AA1OjMxS?
If you have an older pc which cannot be “upgraded”, search for articles about a real upgrade of your OS to Linux. I've used it as a desktop system for 20 years and if you have an open mind, I'd recommend it without hesitation.
