====== Cisco ADSL & 1841 router ======

My [[cisco-877|Cisco 877]] worked well but a few months ago started to reboot randomly. The cause of this is undetermined, but possibly PSU related. But the PSU has a cisco proprietary connector so I cannot test by substitution.
Consequently I decided to update to a new model, hence 1841.

The physical layout is different to the 877, so I have included it below.

The port designations are different for this model, but apart from this and a different IOS version, my running config is substantially the same as the [[networking:cisco-877|877]].


===== Moving from ADSL to Fibre WAN =====

Currently the service is provided over ADSL on a WIC.  This presents an atm0 interface. Due to changes at the ISP this is being migrated to a fibre service, this arrives on a fibre and an ONTE converts to copper ethernet. I need to change the auth to work on the FA0/1 interface with my firewall link still on fa0/0

The Dialer0 config seems to be the same, just add the pppoe config to the fa0/1 interface:-

Seems too easy.... and currently untested. Updates to follow.

Well tested now, the above config worked without issue. After the fibre and NTE was installed and operational, I connected the ethernet and after I had an L2 link, I disconnected the ADSL RJ45 cable. Whilst this was happening, I was running a ping from an internal machine to 1.1.1.1, after the ADSL was disconnected, this was lost, but 13 pings later it came back up using the fibre. 

So a 13s approx outage, impressive.
